Gary has been playing pickleball for more than 10 years, being first lured onto the Jerry Long YMCA courts by his next-door neighbor, who called him down from the upstairs running track to “give it a try.” You can guess the rest of the story. He’s now mostly retired, but in his previous life, he was a career scientist of 45 years, first as a researcher (molecular biology/virology) and later as a scientific and medical consultant at a law firm. Along with Debbie, his pickleball-playing wife of 48 years, he now enjoys exploring the world. His non-pickleball interests include finance (he’s an MBA (Wake Forest) and an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer during tax season), cars (member of a car club), music (former bass player) and history (World War II addict). “But pickleball has been one of the greatest things to come along for me. I’ve made many wonderful friends and acquaintances that I would never have encountered without this most marvelous of sports.

See y’all on the courts!”
